dirt

Dirt:

An original track by divided front, "dirt" is a bitter paean to dashed hopes, getting old, and unreliable friends.

baby, it's you

Baby, It's You:

A cover of the Smith version of this Burt Bacharach-, Luther Dixon- and Mack Davis-penned tune. Originally made popular by the Shirelles, and covered by the Beatles, Smith turned it into a bittersweet rocker, pulled from the depths of singer Gayle McCormick's guts.

no man's land

No Man's Land:

As a Long Island native, I have a soft-spot for Billy Joel, but one has to admit that many of his songs have no balls whatsoever. "No Man's Land" is a great take on the soulless suburbinization of the once-pastoral Island, but it needed more attitude, no synth and some anger ... so I provided it. I also cut it down to about 3:40 by taking out the lengthy and boring interludes of the original.

way down in the hole

Way Down in the Hole:

I held off on watching "The Wire" for too long, because I'm somewhat of a contrarian. But, when I finally gave in, I was hooked. The Blind Boys of Alabama provided a great cover of Tom Wait's tune, which was used in the show's first season opening credits. After hearing the somewhat execrable versions used for Seasons 4 and 5, I decided to record a cover of my own.
